Street Paws, which supports homeless people and their animals across the north of England, is calling for a straightforward update to government housing policy. The charity is asking that social landlords follow the same principle already used in the private rented sector, meaning pets should not be unreasonably refused where a risk assessment shows it is safe.
Campaigners say the change requires no new legislation and no additional funding, only clarity, consistency and compassion in decision-making. If adopted, it would remove one of the biggest barriers preventing people with pets from accessing accommodation.
